Background / History...
Shonisani was born in Soweto and grew up in Venda (Limpopo). She studied a Bachelor of Science at the University of Venda but discontinued due to the lack of finance. As a means to survive, Shonisani started recycling plastics to manufacture beans and hats. This entrepreneurial venture was done in conjunction with her mother until she passed away.

The next creative venture led Shonisani to work with Beads, and she made and sold necklaces, bracelets, belts and earrings.

A turning point arrived when she met Avhashoni Mainganye who taught her drawings and in 2004, he introduced her to Artist Proof Studio. In 2006, Shonisani graduated as a professional printmaker.

She currently works at the Artist Proof Studio. She is involved in an outreach programme “Paper Prayers” and a HIV project funded by the Ford Foundation.

On the Art Side...
In Printmaking technique, she works on a surface/plate before transferring artwork onto paper. Shonisani combines her talent of crocheting, sewing, beadwork with her printmaking work. A critical technique of collagraphy has allowed her mix these skills to creative her innovative art works.
She also stitches some of the prints and uses watercolour, charcoal and pastels to finish off the artworks.

Shonisani has participated in Artist Proof Studio group exhibitions from 2004 – 2006.
